Like a Critic!

Hellooooo, it is Sarah here! I hope you are having a wonderful day.

Today, I will evaluate an ELT website called: AllThings Topics. Of course, I am not the judge or a real critic but as a part of our course, I will analyze the website according to the criteria which are given by our instructor.

This is how the website looks like:

1.       Who authored the website? Is there any information about their qualifications or credentials?

On the website, there is a column which lists the topics you can find. There is a “Contact Me” button in the second line. You can find about the author and contact him.

Also in the third line of the column, you can see “Gemma” button. By clicking it, you can also find the illustrator of some worksheet activities and her contact information.

2.       What is the content of the website?

It has various kind of free printable exercises, reading and spelling quizzes, attendance sheet or lesson planner for teachers, games related to basic topics from A to Z and also you can find MP3 files with some worksheets.

3.       Who is the target audience?

The target audience is EFL/ESL teachers and learners.

4.       What is the purpose of the website?

It aims to provide different materials for a classroom environment or individual learners make English fun to learn I guess!

5.       Is there a date that shows when the site has last been updated?

There is not actually. There are just certain topics downloaded and they do not show when they are uploaded or updated on the site. But on its Facebook page, it can be found easily.

6.       Accuracy of the information- Are there any errors?

All the materials are prepared by the author, teacher. So there are no errors. (I checked the topics randomly but could not find.) If there is any, the author is notified by the readers and he corrects them. But it is not too often! (I contacted the author.)

7.       Are there any broken links?

There are not so many links and the available ones work.

8.       Are the images of high quality and appealing to the target audience?

Before you download the worksheets, you can see the preview forms on the site. But they have not high quality in terms of texts written on them. But they are appealing and for high quality, you can download. They are all free!

9.       How can it be applied to EFL teaching?

Teachers can benefit from these materials in order to make English fun. They can find worksheets according to their topic and students' levels and implement them into their class. Also, materials help students to learn with visuals, games and listening activities which support to keep in mind.
